The front camera shows you a mirror image while you are framing the shot, because that is what you are used to seeing. Some phones then save what the lens actually saw, not what you were looking at — so the photo you get back is flipped compared to the preview. Any text in the shot reads backwards, and your own face looks subtly wrong, because you have only ever seen it mirrored.
Left to right is the fix. One press and it matches what you saw on screen.
A flip reflects the image; a rotation turns it. They look similar on a symmetrical photo and completely different on anything with text, a face or a logo in it. If what you actually need is a photo that came off the camera sideways set straight, that is the rotate page.
