Need the photo under a upload limit? Pick the size you have to hit and it squeezes the file down to fit. It runs in your browser — the photo is never uploaded anywhere.
Almost every compressor hands you a quality slider from 1 to 100 and leaves you guessing. That is backwards: nobody wakes up needing "quality 72". People need to get under a limit — a form that refuses anything over 100 KB, a forum with a 200 KB cap, a government portal that wants 20 KB. So this tool asks for the size instead and works out the quality itself.
Behind the button it re-encodes the photo at a dozen different quality settings and keeps the best one that still fits under your number. If even the lowest sensible quality is too big, it starts scaling the photo down as well, and it tells you when it did that so you are not surprised by a smaller picture.
This one is worth being blunt about, because it is unusual. The compressing happens with the canvas built into your own browser. There is no upload, no queue, no server copy to delete, and it keeps working if your connection drops halfway. Open the network tab while you use it and you will see the file go nowhere.
That is a real difference from the AI tools on the rest of this site: restoring, sharpening and colourising need a GPU, so those do upload your photo (and delete it straight afterwards). Compressing, resizing and cropping need no GPU at all, so they should never have asked for your photo in the first place.
There is a floor, and it depends on what is in the picture. A flat graphic with a few colours will drop to 20 KB without much complaint. A busy holiday photo full of leaves and texture will look chewed up long before it gets there, because JPEG has to throw away exactly the fine detail that makes it look sharp.
If your target is more than about 90% below the original, resize first and compress second. Halving the width already removes three quarters of the pixels, which does far more for the file size than crushing the quality of a photo nobody needed at full resolution anyway. The tool does this for you when it has to, but doing it deliberately on the resize page gives a better-looking result.

PNG is lossless, so a photo saved as PNG is often already large. This tool converts to JPEG or WebP, which is normally much smaller — but if your PNG is a simple graphic with few colours, PNG can genuinely be the smaller format and you are better off just resizing it.
