Most free "add a smile" tools (Gemini, Fotor, Pokecut and the rest) run a generative model: it looks at your face and repaints it from scratch with a smile. That's why people who've tried them report the face drifting away from the original, or the result coming back at a much lower resolution than the photo they uploaded.
This tool never repaints anything. It finds your face, then moves the existing pixels around the mouth and eyes — the same warp-and-blend family of technique as picking your best take above, not a redraw. A closed mouth can't suddenly show teeth that weren't in the photo, because nothing is invented: only what's already there gets nudged into a slightly different shape.
The slider is capped so even 100 stays closed-mouth and natural — this is not a tool for turning a neutral face into a big grin, and it can't add teeth, dimples or anything that wasn't already visible in the photo. Sunglasses, a hand over the mouth, extreme angles or a very small/blurry face can make the face detector miss it entirely; if that happens the photo comes back unchanged and the page tells you why.
Faces that are already smiling still shift a little further, which is usually fine but can look slightly wider at the top of the slider — start lower and increase only if it still looks right.
